As part of a company rebrand, Madison Handbags is changing its name to Monet Handbags and launching an online handbag designer.

The multimillion-dollar, design-your-own-handbag company manufactures its handbags in Schenectady out of a facility at 131 State St. Founded in 2005 by Trish Rost, the company has produced more than 1 million bags for customers nationwide, most of them designed and purchased by women through home parties.

At its 2014 National Conference, held last month at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, Rost announced the rebrand, along with several new bags, the option of monogramming and the online bag designer, which lets customers build their bag online and see their creation before purchasing it.

“We are very excited to introduce Monet Handbags,” Rost said in a news release. “It’s a name that is associated with beauty, creativity and color, and we give our design consultants and customers just that.”

Since the rebrand, the company has had more than 4,000 new hits on its website.
