Lexi Ochs was a difference-maker from all areas of the court with 12 kills, 10 aces and nine defensive digs in leading Guilderland past Shaker Friday in the Suburban Council opener for both teams.

Jessica VanDoren piled up a team-high 32 assists in Guilderland’s 25-11, 27-25, 26-28, 25-11 victory.

Rebecca Straubel had seven kills and 15 digs for the Lady Dutch. Shaker’s leaders were Jill Hogan with six kills, Caitlin Kim with 16 assists and Olivia Bruni with 14 digs.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake tightened its defense after the opening set and defeated Averill Park, 25-16, 25-9, 25-14, to begin defense of its SC North Division championship.

Natalie Schurman had 10 kills and 10 digs for the Spartans, and fellow all-stater Jessica Dillon had 24 assists to go with six digs and four kills. Alyssa Clairmont had two aces and two kills for the Warriors.

DeAnna Whittemore delivered seven kills in Niskayuna’s season-starting 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 win over Mohonasen.

Julia Wagner and Leila Nayar both had four kills for the Silver Warriors, and Lauren Litz had 15 assists. Brittany Boyce had five kills and Ciara Horne had nine assists for the Mighty Warriors.

Evan Bittig had nine kills and five aces, and Shenendehowa topped Saratoga Springs, 25-12, 25-15, 25-17, in its Suburban Council debut.

Mitchell DeBortoli had seven kills and Adam Knapp had seven digs for the Plainsmen. Tom Glozman sparked the Blue Streaks with six kills and three blocks, and Nick McDonough contributed five assists.

Shaker rallied past Guilderland, 19-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-18, behind Sean Stiso’s 20 kills and 13 digs.

Colin McLean had 24 assists, seven digs and four kills for the Blue Bison, and Alexei Nikiforov and Kyle Donnelly both totaled four kills.
