A Dolgeville woman is charged with stealing a puppy from an acquaintance’s lawn.

State police said Andrea M. Williams, 21, of 13 S. Main St., faces one count of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. She is accused of swiping the 3-month-old black Chi-puggle Tuesday afternoon while her male companion was inside the puppy owner’s home talking about an unrelated matter. Williams untied the puppy from its leash and took it, police said.

Williams, police said, had expressed interest in the puppy in the past, even offering to buy it. She initially denied to officers she took the puppy, but then admitted to the theft, police said.
