A 5-month-old child died Friday night in a Schenectady home.
Schenectady police responded to 70 Furman St. around 10 p.m. after receiving a call that the child had stopped breathing, Schenectady police Lt. Mark McCracken said.
McCracken called the death unattended because there were no medical personnel present at the time. He would not release any further information about the child, who he said was being watched by a family member.
Fire crews attempted to revive the child at the scene, and the child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, he said.
Police are securing the scene until an autopsy is performed and a cause of death determined, he said.
“If it turns out to be a medical call, it is what it is, and if it’s more than that, we’ll release information,” he said.
