2 former Gloversville residents admit benefits fraud

Two former Gloversville residents admitted in federal court this week to lying to obtain more than $

Two former Gloversville residents admitted in federal court this week to lying to obtain more than $400,000 in disability benefits, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Scott J. Bornt, 53, and his wife Geri Mondlin-Bornt, 50, each pleaded guilty in Albany to one count of Social Security fraud.

They admitted to failing to disclose income earned from their trucking business. As a result, Bornt received more than $314,000 in benefits he wasn’t entitled to over six years and Mondlin-Bornt illegally received more than $88,000 over seven years, officials said.

They are to be sentenced Feb. 9 in Albany. They each face up to five years in federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, with the assistance of the United States Secret Service.
