Sophomore Riley Bourbonnais scored his first three collegiate goals, helping RPI break out of its offensive slump and roll to an easy 6-1 victory over second-ranked Union in the ECAC Hockey opener for both teams Friday at Houston Field House.
The Engineers (2-5) had scored just six goals in their first six games.
Freshmen Jared Wilson, Viktor Liljegren and Lou Nanne also scored for RPI.
Union goalie Colin Stevens was pulled from the game late in the second after Liljegren made it 4-0. Forward Daniel Ciampini didn't play in the third period after he received a 10-minite misconduct late in the second.
Mike Vecchione scored Union's goal.
The two teams play again Saturday at 7 at Messa Rink.
