Schenectady County’s Pedal-Paddle-Run Triathlon has a new location and date — about five months earlier in the year.
The fifth annual triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Aqueduct Park in Niskayuna, with the 13.5-mile course taking participants down Aqueduct Road and the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway and into Mohawk River. The last race took place Sept. 13 and drew 89 competitors to Collins Park in Scotia.
“Schenectady County is very excited about the new location and extra excitement for Pedal-Paddle-Run, a day of wellness and community-building,” said county Legislator Cathy Gatta, chairwoman of the Committee on Tourism and Special Events. “I encourage all of our residents, businesses, community groups, and youth organizations to create teams and come together along the Mohawk for this great day of fun, fitness, and community celebration.”
Participants are encouraged to create teams of two to four people ages 12 and older, with team members completing each section of the race as a relay. The biking portion includes 8 miles along Aqueduct Road and the Mohawk-Hudson trail, the kayaking or canoeing portion is 2 miles on the Mohawk River, and the running portion is 3.5 miles on the bike path.
A limited number of kayaks be available to rent on site that morning and can be reserved during registration. All participants will receive a t-shirt and race bag.
