A Palatine Bridge man has been indicted in Montgomery County Court on eight charges — including attempted murder — in connection with two fires he allegedly set in Palatine in January.
Scott J. Cole, 37, was arraigned Thursday before Judge Felix J. Catena on an indictment that included four counts of attempted second-degree murder and single counts of second- and third-degree arson, second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree reckless endangerment.
According to the indictment, Cole is accused of setting the fires at a home on Failing Hill Road in the town of Palatine on Jan. 29 with the intent of killing four people. One fire involved a building, and the other involved a vehicle that sustained more than $1,500 in damage, the indictment stated.
Cole was arrested shortly after the fires were allegedly set and has been held in jail. He was returned to the Montgomery County jail without bail pending further proceedings.
