Top-seeded Notre Dame held University at Albany’s Lyle Thompson in check for most of the game and surged past the Great Danes 14-10 in the NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfinals today at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
Thompson scored a goal and added four assists, finishing his career with 400 points, the most in NCAA history. He also became the NCAA’s all-time leader in assists with 225.
The game was delayed by lightning for an hour and 18 minutes with Notre Dame leading 4-3.
Notre Dame took an 8-4 lead but the Great Danes surged ahead 9-8 on a Kyle McClancy goal. UAlbany outscored the Fighting Irish 5-0 in the third quarter.
But the final period belonged to Notre Dame. Sergio Perkovic and Nick Ossello scored two goals apiece.
UAlbany, ranked sixth in the country, finishes 16-3. The Fighting Irish (12-2) advance to the semifinals next weekend in Philadelphia.
