Queensbury baseball moves to regional final

Justin Troelstra's two-out hit in eighth inning gives Queensbury baseball a win in regional semi.

ALBANY — Justin Troelstra’s two-out, bases-loaded single in in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Queensbury a 6-5 win over Section III champion Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in a Class A baseball regional semifinal at the Plumeri Complex.

Queensbury, now 19-5, rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead into the top of the seventh, when Davey Moffett touched multi-sport standout Brett Rodriguez for a tying two-run homer.

But the resilient Spartans staged an improbable rally with two outs in the eighth to leave them one victory from the state semifinals.

Queensbury will play Section VII champion Peru this afternoon at 4:30 at SUNY-Plattsburgh for a berth in next weekend’s final four.

The winning rally began when Erik Wettersten hit a bad-hop single to short, and took second on an errant throw.

VVS walked Kyle Chambers intentionally looking for an inning ending force out.

A wild pitch to Ryan Flasburg moved the runners up, and he was issued a free pass, loading the bases for Troelstra, who promplty deposited his fourth hit of the game just inside the right field foul line.
