Friday's high school sports roundup

Senior captain Morgan Adams registered eight kills, 10 serving aces and 12 assists to help the Scotia-Glenville girls’ volleyball team beat Johnstown 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 in a Foothills Council match Friday.

Danielle Gagnon chipped in with six digs and five assists for the Tartans.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (7-1) outlasted Fonda-Fultonville (6-1) 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18 in a Colonial Council match.

Hailey Irvis had 16 digs, Day Stevens added nine digs and Bailey Kross contributed 21 digs for R-C-S.

Miranda Nethaway and Gianna Cruz topped the Braves with 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Fort Plain defeated Saratoga Central Catholic 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 behind 12 kills from Emily Potter, 17 service points from Brandy Nalters and 19 assist from Catherine Subik. Delaney Bacher had 10 kills, and Grace Fornabia added nine for the Saints.

Shayla Lyons had 13 kills, Michelle Ferraino contributed 22 assists and Christina Grippin posted 22 digs in Middleburgh’s 25-12, 25-15, 25-9 win over Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Saige Burton’s 10 kills led the Bulldogs.

Duanesburg beat Schoharie in five, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 11-25, 25-18, getting six kills from Victoria Dykstra. Ashley Potter handed out 11 assists for the Eagles (3-3 WAC), and Alexa Lombardoni had eight points.

Schoharie’s Winter Sparacin had 21 points, and Alexis Danthine had 19, while Kelsey Hayes recorded 10 kills.

Kaylee Bumpus was all over the court with 18 kills, 10 service points and 11 digs to lead Mayfield to a 19-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 win over Canajoharie.

Bri Eagan added 13 kills and 19 digs for the Panthers (6-0, 9-0). Jenna Shepard’s six kills topped the Cougars (3-3, 4-3).

In the Central Hudson Valley League, Emma Willard defeated Waterford-Halfmoon 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 as Stacy Falaleeva made 13 kills and Sam Du added eight kills and three digs for the 6-0, 6-1 Jesters.

Caitlyn Class produced nine kills, and Courtney Formosa had 24 assists for the 4-2, 4-4 Fordians.


Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake improved ot 7-1 with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-22 Suburban Council sweep of Shenendehowa.

Brad Albright put down 13 kills, Ben Keppler added seven kills, and Cody Pearce contribured six kills, 15 assists and five blocks for the Spartans.

Will Marklinger had 18 kills and 11 digs to lead Colonie over Saratoga Springs 25-16, 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-22.

Liam Dollard added 13 kills and 49 assists, and Jeff Cole added 24 digs and 11 kills for the Garnet Raiders Greg Palmatier (15 kills, five blocks, one ace) excelled for the Blue Streaks.

Shaker downed Columbia 25-15, 15-25, 25-19, 25-15 as Colin McLean and Alexi Nikiforov combined for 20 kills and 17 assists.

Tony Tirino had six kills to lead Columbia.


The Glens Falls boys’ soccer team recaptured the Falls Cup with their 4-3 Foothills Council defeat of Hudson Falls. Brandon Sherman, Willy Herrmann, Andy Culliton and Liam Casey all scored a goal for the Indians.

Gent Shala scores two goals, and Ben Marshal added another for the Tigers.

Queensbury scored a goal in both halves of the game to blank Schuylerville 2-0. Cole Crotty and Luke Geczy scored the two goals for the Spartans.

Ryan Couture recorded eight saves in a losing effort for the Black Horses.

In the Colonial Council, Jordan Lockridge scored two goals, and Emanual Gomez had a goal with an assist for Albany Academy in its 4-0 win over Watervliet. Ryan Uccellini also had a goal for the Cadets.

Mitch Capitula had 10 saves for the Cannoneers.

Devan Battisti scored the lone goal of the game as Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville edged Cananjoharie 1-0. Brad Smith set Battisti up for the goal.

Ryan Davis and Brendan Gifford both recorded two goals and two assists in Mayfield’s 6-0 win over Fort Plain. The Panther defense allowed only one shot by the Hilltoppers. Taylor Madeiros and Jack Albertin also scored for Mayfield.

In the Wasaren League, Tamarac scored a second half goal to defeat Hoosick Falls 2-1. Ben Hisert and Nick Wehrwein scored goals that were both assisted by Daniel Nealon for the Bengals.

Tyler Gaines scored the lone goal for the Panthers, assisted by Riley Bacon.

Berlin, undefeated in Central Hudson Valley League play, handed Doane Stuart its second loss, 3-1. Keel Krumenacker, Ryan Willis and Bob Hoard each scored a goal for Berlin.

Joey Rocchio scored a goal, and Luca Dipreta recorded 14 saves for Doane Stuart.

In non-league action, Scotia-Glenville scored two second half goals to defeat Schenectady 2-0. Owen Fingar had a goal and an assist to go along with a goal by Peter Marola for the Tartans.

Girls’ Soccer

Kaitlyn Colettie netted two goals and added an assist for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in its 3-1 Colonial Council win on the road against Fonda-Fultonville. Jessica Bianchi also recorded a goal for the Indians.

Alexandria Krohn had 12 saves for the Braves. Emma Rhodes scored the lone goal on a penalty kick for Fonda.

In the Western Athletic Conference, Ila Kochan scored the winning goal, assisted by Marleana VonHaugg, in the second overtime to lift Berne-Knox-Westelo over Canajoharie 1-0.

Mayfield’s tough defense held Fort Plain to only one shot in its 2-1 win. Angelina Mannino and Julie Hampton scored the two goals for the Panthers. Beth Doxtater contributed nine saves for Mayfield.

Kendra Trembley scored the only goal for the Hilltoppers, assisted by Soren Shirley.

Matisha Kenyon and Leah Vanderhost scored a goal apiece for Galway in its 2-0 win against Saratoga Central Catholic. Grace Montague had both of the assists for the Golden Eagles.

Saratoga Central Catholic got 20 saves from Karah Colvin.

Kelsey Campbell scored two goals for Middleburgh in a 6-0 win over Duanesburg. Julia Newsom, Rylie Smith, Kayla Francis and Marilyn Hanley also added a goal for the Knights.

Nicole Cassale had 15 saves in the loss.


Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake blanked Columbia 4-0 behind a pair of goals from Elise Zwicklbauer.

Courtney Kruzikas and Hannah Sweeney also scored for the Spartans, and goalie Brittany Ryan was credited with the shutout in goal.

Susanne Clark made 12 saves for the Blue Devils.
