High school roundup: Mekeel boys improve to 10-0

Mekeel Christian Academy bounced back after allowing an own goal to rally past Berne-Knox-Westerlo 2

Mekeel Christian Academy bounced back after allowing an own goal to rally past Berne-Knox-Westerlo 2-1 in a Western Athletic Conference boys’ soccer match Friday.

The Lions improved to 8-0 in the WAC South and 10-0 overall. Jordan Ahlquist and Oscar Iteji scored for the Lions after BKW scored on a ball that bounced off Iteji. JP Howard had five saves for MCA.

Tyler Klingenberg registered a pair of goals to lift Saratoga Central Catholic to a 4-3 Western Athletic Conference win over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville.

Colin Bradley scored a goal, and the Saints also scored on an own goal. Brad Smith picked up two of the three goals for OESJ, and Zachary Mosher also scored.

Mitch Barton scored twice as Schoharie topped Duanesburg 4-0. Steve Alescio and Matt Loubier also scored for the Indians, and Connor Lawyer set up of the goals. Jake Fagnani made five saves.

Alex Lawrence had eight stops for the Eagles.

In the Central Hudson Valley League, Thomas Seeberger recorded four goals and an assist to power Loudonville Christian School to a 7 -1 win over Germantown.

Aaron Catchpole, Yan Soe and Adam Speno also scored for LCS. Goalie Jacob Alesio made five saves. For the Clippers, Tyler Fuchs scored the goal and Rowan DuBois stopped 20 shots.

Dylan Miller, Jeff Luce and Quinton Cahrenger tallied goals in Waterford-Halfmoon’s 3-2 win over New Lebanon. Joey Espey-Vanier had three saves for the 5-4, 5-8 Fordians.

Girls’ soccer

Scotia-Glenville improved to 8-0 in the Foothills Council and 11-0 overall with a 3-1 triumph over Gloversville.

Abby O’Connor scored twice, and Myah Hughes also scored for the Tartans. Kelsey Jessup made three saves. Sierra Fancher scored the goal for Gloversville.

Carilyn Maloney scored two goals to help Lansingburgh beat Cobleskill-Richmondville 3-1 in a Colonial Council match.

McKayla Criscone also scored for the Knights, who got three saves from keeper Natalie Tidings. Cobleskill’s goal was an own goal. Sidney Dymes made eight saves for the Bulldogs.

Abby Mosher collected a hat trick, and Alexis Romeyn, Fontana LaCoppola, Addie Brundage and Emily Weaver also scored goals in Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville’s 8-1 win over Saratoga Central Catholic.

Kristin Maher scored for the Saints.

Canajoharie defeated Fort Plain 3-1 on goals from Lauren Mayer, Madison Crouse and Madison Koebl.

Amber Douglas scored for the Hilltoppers.

Mekeel Christian Academy and Berne-Knox-Westerlo played to a scoreless tie.

Madison Gowett and Madalynn Garrone had the goals in Mechanicville’s 2-0 Wasaren League win over Tamarac.

Lauren Clayes had 11 saves for the 9-1, 9-2 Red Raiders.

In the Central Hudson Valley League, Waterford-Halfmoon beat Berlin 3-1 as Ashley White, Annelise Rebel and Chelsea Kennedy each notched goals. Sierra Hoinski had six saves for the Fordians. Jordan Cahill and Haley Maxon combined to make 13 stops for the Mountaineers. Jewell Pietrazk scored the Berlin goal.

Boys’ Volleyball

Colin McLean had 22 kills, 23 assists and eight aces for Shaker in its 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 Suburban Council win over Guilderland. Alexei Nikiforov put up 15 kills with 17 assists and five aces, and Niraj Shah added 18 digs for the Blue Bison.

For the Dutchmen, Alex Lensky posted 16 assists and Brian Knodler added 10 kills.

Cody Pearce produced 13 points, nine kills and five aces to pace Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake over Colonie 25-19, 25-10, 25-9. Brad Albright had 11 kills, Ben Pelton recorded 15 assists and Drew Delorenzo recorded 10 digs for the Spartans.

Liam Dollord dished out 12 assists for the Garnet Raiders.

Nick Mazone’s nine kills and Andrew Wollner’s eight digs helped Bethlehem defeat Shenendehowa 25-12, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23.

Tom Huerter posted 30 assists for the Plainsmen.

Girls’ Volleyball

Sarah Del Vecchio had 25 kills to go along with Rebecca Nichols’ 39 assists as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo 24-26, 25-27, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Julie Nichols had 13 kills with 14 digs, and Maria Dobkowski added 11 more digs for ND-BG.

Christina Grippin set a BKW record with 54 digs, Michelle Ferraino recorded 24 assists and 20 digs for the Bulldogs. Both teams were undefeated going into the contest.

In non-league action, Rachel Sherman had 10 points with nine kills and Hannah Bramer recorded 10 points with nine assists for Duanesburg in its win over Galway 13-25, 25-20, 29-27, 25-15.

Field Hockey

Elise Zwicklbauer recorded two goals, and Lexi Ball added two assists in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s 4-0 win over Guilderland in the Suburban Council.

Carly Grant and Sydney Plemenik also scored a goal for the Spartans.

Stephanie Kruz had 10 saves for the Lady Dutch.

Emily Frazier and Kelly Buckley both scored a goal for Shenendehowa in its 2-0 win over Shaker.

Emily Polsinello has eight saves for the Blue Bison.

Maggie Conway scored two first-half goals, and Cristina Darby totaled two assists for Saratoga as it beat Columbia 5-0. Grace Ziehnert, Marisa Larkin and Jessie House also recorded goals for the Blue Streaks.

Blue Devil goalie Suzanne Clarke had 14 saves.
