Two killed in wrong-way Thruway crash

Two people have died as a result of a multiple-vehicle accident caused by a wrong-way driver on the

Two people have died as a result of a multiple-vehicle accident caused by a wrong-way driver on the Thruway Friday night between exits 23 and 24, according to police.

The New York State Police said today that the wrong-way driver, identified as George E. Bradwell Jr., 71, of Troy was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert E. Prior, 37, of Coeymans died at Albany Medical Center.

According to police, Bradwell was driving his Hyundai Sonata north in the southbound lanes between exits 23 and 24 in Guilderland around 9:39 p.m. when he collided with a southbound minivan.

The minivan was then hit by a Chevrolet Cobalt and a Dodge Dakota pickup, both traveling south.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Antione J.P. Marcais, 64, of Johnstown was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital for a hand injury. The driver of the pickup, John E. Shatraw III, 27, of Schenectady was not injured.

All southbound lanes were closed during the investigation.

Police said the accident is under investigation.
