When Union faces Brown tonight at Messa Rink, it will mark the 14th time in the Division I era that the Dutchmen have played on a day dreaded by those with paraskevidekatriaphobia, as people who fear Friday the 13th would know.

In their first 13 Friday the 13th games, the Dutchmen are 5-7-1. Coincidentally or not, many of these games are memorable — for reasons good, bad and evil, if you are a Dutchmen fan. Here’s a look at Union’s Friday the 13th encounters:

Quinnipiac 4, Union 3 (3OT), March 13, 2015: The 10th-seeded Dutchmen had the top-seeded Bobcats on the ropes in Game 1 of the ECAC Hockey tournament quarterfinals. But they saw a 3-1 lead evaporate on two extra-attacker goals by Sam Anas less than a minute apart late in the third period to send the game into overtime. Alex Miner-Barron’s left-point shot at 6:32 of the third OT found its way past a screened goalie Colin Stevens to give the Bobcats the win.

Yale 2, Union 0, Feb. 13, 2015: This game at Messa Rink started the Dutchmen on a record-setting three-game scoreless streak. This game was also Whiteout Night. Problem was that Union was wearing its Garnet road uniforms. Yale wore its home whites because it would be in those uniforms the next night at RPI’s Big Red Freakout.

Union 4, St. Cloud State 1, Dec. 13, 2013: Goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos made 34 saves, and defenseman Mat Bodie had a goal and two assists as the Dutchmen won at top-ranked St. Cloud State. The win came two nights after the Dutchmen beat Dartmouth at home 3-2.

Union 2, Harvard 0, Jan. 13, 2012: The Dutchmen played the Crimson outdoors at Fenway Park. Center Kelly Zajac had a goal and an assist, and goalie Troy Grosenick stopped 18 shots to lead the Dutchmen.

Union 4, St. Lawrence 3, Nov. 13, 2009: Zajac, Mario Valery-Trabucco and Brian Yanovitch each had a goal and an assist as the Dutchmen built a 4-1 lead and held on for the victory.

Princeton 3, Union 2, March 13, 2009: Third-period goals by Mark Magnowski and Lee Jubinville sent the Tigers to a victory in Game 1 of the ECACH tournament quarterfinals.

Yale 4, Union 2, Feb. 13, 2009: Union held 10th-ranked Yale to 15 shots on goal, but Bulldogs goalie Alec Richards made 34 saves to spark the win.

Union 5, Clarkson 0, Jan. 13, 2005: Goalie Kris Mayotte made 33 saves, and Chris Potts and Scott Brady scored in the first 2:23 of the first period as the Dutchmen cruised to the win.

Union 2, Brown 2, Feb. 13, 2003: Mayotte is pulled for an extra attacker twice late in the third period, and it pays off on goals by Jason Visser and Matt Vagvolgyi.

Vermont 4, Union 1, Nov. 13, 1998: Jason Ralph’s shorthanded goal late in the first period gave the Dutchmen the lead, but the Catamounts scored three times in the second and go on to a win.

St. Lawrence 5, Union 2, Feb. 13, 1998: John Poapst had two goals and two assists as the Saints cruised to victory.

Union 5, RPI 2, Jan. 13, 1995: The only time the Capital Region rivals met on Friday the 13th. Coly Holbrough scored twice in the Union win at Achilles Rink.

Harvard 4, Union 0, Nov. 13, 1992: Union’s first Friday the 13th game at the Division I level doesn’t go well. Forward Ted Drury had two goals and an assist, and goalie Tripp Tracy made 28 saves to lead the Crimson to the victory.
