Amsterdam police have arrested three men in connection with a stabbing in a fight at a Stewart’s Shop on Saturday afternoon, and more arrests might be on the way, authorities said.

The men, all charged with felony gang assault, among other crimes, are accused of attacking and stabbing an unidentified man at the Stewart’s on Guy Park Avenue around 4:45 p.m. in an extension of a confrontation that began earlier Saturday.

Initial reports indicated that at least two people had been stabbed during the fight, according to police. One of those stabbed — a man who showed up at the Amsterdam Police Department with a wound to the arm — was among those arrested today.

The other man, who suffered multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, is still recovering at Albany Medical Center.

Edwin O. Gallardo, 28, of Glen Avenue in Amsterdam, was charged with first-degree gang assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Alexis Alvarez, 35, of the same address, was charged with first-degree gang assault. Police said Alvarez was stabbed in the arm during the fight. He was treated and released from St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.

An unidentified 16-year-old male also was charged with first-degree gang assault.

The three who were arrested were arraigned today in Amsterdam City Court and sent to the Montgomery County jail without bail.

According to police, Gallardo stabbed the unidentified victim several times during the attack. The victim was found at the scene by police with wounds to the abdomen before being flown to Albany Medical Center.
