A man arrested in Orange County for a Christmas evening stabbing in Schenectady has been ordered held without bail, authorities said.
Christopher L. Cowan, 23, of Connecticut and Cohoes, appeared in Schenectady City Court Thursday morning on one count of second-degree attempted murder.
Cowan is accused of stabbing the victim, who is also from Connecticut, multiple times in the head, neck and torso just after 7 p.m. Christmas inside a parked car on Hulett Street, near State Street, police said. Police said Cowan and the victim were roommates.
Paramedics took the victim, whose name police did not release, to Ellis Hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim has since been released from the hospital.
Cowan fled the scene, but police soon learned his name and put out an alert to state police for his vehicle.
State police zeroed in on Cowan near Tuxedo in Orange County after a toll booth operator recognized Cowan’s vehicle from the alert and contacted the state police. State police responded and took Cowan into custody without incident.
Police said both the victim and Cowan live in Connecticut, but said Cowan also provided a Cohoes address to detectives.
Cowan remained at the Schenectady County Jail Thursday evening, held without bail.
