City police are investigating a bank robbery that happened at about 3 p.m. today in Albany — nearly 30 minutes after a bank robbery in Rotterdam.
The Albany robbery occurred at NBT Bank at 54 State St.; the Rotterdam robbery was at Trustco Bank at 141 W. Campbell Road.
The Albany suspect was described by city police as a white male who has reddish hair and is approximately 50 years old.
The robber approached the bank counter and passed a note to the teller, demanding money, according to police. The teller complied, and the suspect fled with an unspecified amount of cash. No one was injured during the robbery.
The suspect most recently was seen wearing a blue and black hooded sweatshirt.
When reached by phone tonight, Albany Police Officer Steven Smith said he had “no idea” if the two bank robberies today are related.
In Rotterdam, police are investigating whether a threat to Mohonasen High School just minutes before the robbery in the town was intended as a diversion for that robbery.
Anyone with information about the Albany robbery is encouraged to call the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.
