GREENFIELD CENTER — State police today released the name of the man who died in a house fire on Grange Road on Wednesday evening.

Richard Jones, 55, of 21 Grange Road, died in his home, police said.

State police, along with the Saratoga County cause and origins team, investigated the fire, which they believe was caused by an accidental electrical overload. The fire heavily damaged the home. Jones was the only person at home at the time.

Police said a passing motorist saw the fire and called 911 at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. Responding firefighters from the Greenfield Fire Department found Jones dead in the home. Police said Jones' death was caused by smoke inhalation.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Department assisted in the investigation.
