An elderly woman loading her car in a Wal-Mart parking lot with flowers for her husband’s gravesite Wednesday was accosted by a pair of men who puled up beside her, grabbed her purse and took off, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Deparment.
The two men, 22-year-old Paul Filkins, of Malta, and 26-year-old Aaron Griffin, of Round Lake, fled the area but were spotted by a sheriff’s deputy and pulled over on Middletown Road, where they were taken into custody, according to police.
Filkins and Griffin were both charged with grand larceny, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Filkins, who was driving the car, was also charged with reckless endangerment for allegedly nearly striking the woman.
The woman was treated on the scene and had her purse returned.
Filkins and Griffin were arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court on Wednesday.
