One man shot another in the chest Sunday morning with a shotgun, triggering a car chase that ended in a crash and two arrests.
The wounded man, whose name was not released, was treated at Ellis Hospital and later transported to Albany Medical Center with what police described as “non-life threatening injuries.”
Police said the shooting took place around 4:35 a.m. on Turner Avenue between 15th and 16th streets. A previous altercation between the two men in Rotterdam continued on the 2700 block of Turner Avenue, police said.
Several rounds were fired from the shotgun. Police said the gunman fled the scene in a car operated by a third person. The victim, despite his wound, pursued the shooter and intentionally hit the fleeing car with his car at least twice, police said.
The incident ended in Rotterdam when the wounded man lost control of his vehicle and crashed it into a creek near Viaport Rotterdam, formerly Rotterdam Square Mall.
The alleged shooter, Khalik R. Martin, age 38, of Schenectady, was charged with one count each of second-degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and second degree menacing.
Sharon D. Womack, age 32, of Schenectady was charged with second-degree hindering prosecution for allegedly driving Martin away from the shooting scene.
Rotterdam police assisted Schenectady police with the investigation.
