Baseball: Saratoga Catholic locks up WAC North crown

Saratoga Central Catholic clinched the North Divison of the Western Athletic Conference with a 1-0 w

Saratoga Central Catholic clinched the North Divison of the Western Athletic Conference with a 1-0 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Wednesday.

Kaden Learch drove in Connor Farrington with a sacrifice fly in the first inning for the lone run of the game.

Saratoga Catholic (9-0, 17-1) will host Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Saturday at 7 at Veterans Park for the Western Athletic Conference Cup.

Columbia rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to get by Guilderland 10-7 in a Suburban Council game. Andrew Harris led the Columbia offense with two hits, two runs and six RBIs. Nick Grabek had two RBIs for Guilderland.

Saratoga Springs defeated Shaker 7-2. Brendon Frank had two hits and drove in two for the Blue Streaks.

Zach Durfee went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Ballston Spa past Schenectady 4-1. Zach Austin went 1-for-3 for Schenectady.

Bethlehem defeated Col­onie 7-2. Steve Mendleson had three hits, scored once and stole a base for the Eagles.

Mike Jeffers hit a home run to lead Shenendehowa past Niskayuna 12-4.

Voorheesville defeated Fonda-Fultonville 7-1 to clinch the Colonial Council Patriot Div­ision title. Tom Gallager threw a complete-game three-hitter and struck out 10 for Voorheesville (11-4, 12-5). Matt Bess had an RBI double for the Blackbirds.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk knocked off Lansingburgh 3-2. Logan Frangella threw a complete game and struck out nine for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Derek Gamache had a single and walked twice for Lansingburgh.

Tim Carroll had two singles and an RBI to help LaSalle get by Catholic Central 3-2.

Jake Potter had two hits and drove in a run to help lead Hudson Falls to a 5-0 victory over Gloversville in a Foothills Council crossover game. Evan Walrath had two hits for Gloversville.

In another crossover game, Ben Wager threw six shutout innings, after giving up a pair of runs in the first, and struck out seven for Johnstown in its win over Glens Falls 9-2. Ray Nellis, Hunter Livingstone, and Devin Boyle all doubled for Johnstown. Nolan Murphy had two hits and an RBI for Glens Falls.

Scotia-Glenville will be hosting Queensbury today at 4:30 for the overall Foothills Council Championship.

Mekeel Christian Academy held on to beat Schoharie 8-6 for a Western Athletic Conference win. Mitchell Fischer had a triple for the Lions. Austyn Bivins had two singles and a double for Schoharie.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Middleburgh 15-0. Chris Kordziel went 5-for-5 with five runs and five RBIs for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.

Canajoharie won Game 1 of a doubleheader with Galway 12-2. Lucas Sassei threw a complete game, striking out 10 and had three RBIs. Nate Schader went 2-for-3 for Galway.

Canajoharie scored two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the sweep with a 2-1 victory. Willy Parrino had two hits and an RBI for the Cougars.

Waterford-Halfmoon defeated Germantown 6-4 in a Central Hudson Valley League game.

Jacob Kennedy gave up no runs and struck out 11 over five innings to help Fort Plain beat Duanesburg 9-0 in a non-league matchup. Jon Calbet had a triple for Fort Plain.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons won on a walk-off to defeat Schoharie 3-2 for a Western Athletic Conference win on Tuesday. Chris Kordziel earned the win for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, throwing a complete game and struck out nine. Jordan Vincent had a RBI triple for Schoharie.
