The city's first roundabout was officially completed and opened to traffic on Sunday morning.

The roundabout, at the intersection of Erie Boulevard and Nott Street, opened ahead of schedule on Sunday to drivers.

The roundabout is a two-lane roundabout with both lanes having the option to go straight along with the option to turn onto Nott Street or turn onto the Mohawk Harbor site and nearby Front Street.

Erie Boulevard was closed on Friday evening for the roundabout to be paved and again on Saturday afternoon for it to be striped.

City Engineer Chris Wallin is encouraging drivers to be cautious of their speeds entering and exiting the roundabout and be aware of other drivers as everyone adjusts to the new road conditions.

The roundabout is expected to allow for better traffic flow on busy Erie Boulevard and is also situated at the entrance to the Mohawk Harbor site, which will bring increased traffic to the area with the new casino expected to open early next year.
