Well that didn't take long.

Ian Anderson, the No. 3 overall draft pick of the Atlanta Braves out of Shenendehowa High School in June, was promoted Friday to Class A Danville from the Gulf Coast League Braves. His stay in the GCL lasted five starts, and he allowed no earned runs across 18 innings.

Anderson’s final GCL start was Friday, during which he struck out four batters and walked none in three shutout innings. He learned of his promotion immediately after his final inning of work.

“They told me right after I came out,” Anderson said. “Usually, all the coaches shake your hand after you come out, and [this time] they pulled me aside and the manager told me that when you don’t give up any runs in the GCL, they move you up.”

Anderson was 1-0 in the GCL while striking out 18 and walking four. Opposing batters hit .222 against him and only one of the 14 hits Anderson allowed went for extra bases.

Danville is an advanced rookie-level team that plays in the Appalachian League, the same league as the Greeneville Astros, a rung below the Tri-City ValleyCats.

Anderson leaves for Virginia today at 2 p.m. He said his first call with the news of his promotion went to his parents, Bob and Karen.

“They were excited for me, and they also had a lot of questions,” Anderson said. “But this is exciting. They were able to come down last week, too, so it was good I was still down here then — but now we’re moving on.”
