Stewart’s Shops ice cream and gelato flavors have again taken top honors at the World Dairy Expo in Wisconsin.
Stewart’s dark chocolate won "Best of the Best" in North America, taking first place in the Dark Chocolate ice cream category. It was the flavor’s seventh win in ten years, company officials said.
Each entry is ranked on flavor, body and texture, melting quality, appearance and color.
Top honors were also awarded to Stewart’s milk chocolate gelato and Stewart’s salty caramel gelato, which earned first and second place respectively in the gelato category. Stewart’s Shops began offering three flavors of gelato in pints last summer.
Gelato dates back to ancient Italy and is popular for its rich, bold flavor and creamy texture. In a different category, Stewart’s heavy whipping cream was awarded second place in its category.
Stewart’s Shops makes its own ice cream and gelato daily, using fresh milk from 30 family dairy farms in the counties around its dairy processing plant in Greenfield. Its corporate headquarters are in Malta.
“The secret behind our delicious ice cream is simple; we really love ice cream and care about making it taste great,” saidStewart’s Shops President Gary Dake. “It’s fun for our customers to eat ice cream, and it’s fun for us too.”
The World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest was held in Madison, Wisconsin, Aug. 23-25.
