A city man is facing a child endangerment count after a 2-year-old child in his care was found wandering the streets Monday, authorities said.

Andre P. Smith, 29, of Robinson Street, has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

The child, Smith’s nephew, was found by a stranger wandering on State Street just before 9 a.m. Monday, after the boy made his way out of the house undetected, according to court paperwork.

The boy was gone for more than 45 minutes before Smith reported him missing, police allege in court paperwork. Paperwork reported no injuries to the child.
