A Halfmoon man told state police he took acid and cough medicine before he drove through a neighbor’s fence, broke into the house and took a dog.

Michael Orchard, 43, drove through multiple neighbors’ yards before crashing through the fence, according to State Police Public Information Officer Mark J. Cepiel.

“At no point was he on a roadway with his motor vehicle,” Cepiel said.

Orchard smashed in a rear door of the home before taking the dog, which was not harmed in the incident, police said.

Orchard was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, according to a police report. He was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and was sent to Saratoga County Jail after he did not post bail, police said.

The dog was returned to its owners.

Cepiel said he didn’t know Friday whether Orchard had any prior arrest record.
