The new Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Mohawk Harbor will officially open Thursday night to guests.
The 124 room hotel, located along Erie Boulevard in Schenectady, already has reservations booked for its first night, said General Manager Jeff Michaelson.
The hotel is the first building to open on the Mohawk Harbor site.
“We want to be a great partner for the city and the community,” Michaelson said Wednesday.
The Marriott is four stories tall. In addition to the 124 guest rooms, it features a meeting room, a fitness center, an indoor pool and a restaurant, called The Bistro.
Guests can access the hotel using the newly paved road into the harbor site, where a traffic light went up in recent days. The Marriott’s address is 240 Harborside Drive.
Next to the hotel will be the Harbor Center, a retail and office complex now under construction. Harbor Center will eventually consist of two buildings comprising nearly 100,000 square feet of office and retail space.
Other projects on the Mohawk Harbor site include the Rivers Casino, which is scheduled for an early 2017 opening, and an attached hotel, which will open later in 2017.
In a an August interview, Director of Sales and Marketing Tom Gabriel said the hotel will cater to business travelers and families, with the hope of being part of the community, as opposed to relying on casino visitors for guests.
The Marriott is one of a few new hotels popping up in the area. In addition to the hotel associated with the casino, a new Homewood Suites by Hilton is being built along Freemans Bridge Road, within walking distance of the Mohawk Harbor site. That hotel, which will be Glenville’s first, will include 105 rooms and is expected to open in the spring.
The standard room rate at the Courtyard by Marriott is around $185 per night during the week and around $165 per night on the weekends, according to Marriott’s website. Prices vary depending on the type of room.
