Two charged in Rotterdam bank robbery

Rotterdam police detectives on Saturday arrested James Matzen, 22, of Troy, and Lauren Sankowski, 30

Rotterdam police detectives on Saturday arrested James Matzen, 22, of Troy, and Lauren Sankowski, 30, of Schenectady, for robbing the Pioneer Savings Bank on Altamont Avenue on Thursday, police said.

Matzen was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and third-degree grand larceny.

Sankowski was charged with one count of third-degree robbery and one count of third-degree grand larceny. Detectives were assisted by members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and Colonie Police Department.

Both suspects were arraigned. Matzen was sent to Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash; Sankowski was sent to jail in lieu of $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash.
