Two city police department police dogs have received bullet and stab-proof vests, thanks to a donation from a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization.

City K-9s Koenige and Vert will benefit from the vests, which were donated by Vested Interest in K9s Inc., and were sponsored by Margaret and George Pearsall. The vests will be embroidered with the words “In memory of my pets who brought joy to my life.”

Vested Interest is a charity located in East Taunton, Massachusetts. The mission of the non-profit is to provide protective vests and other assistance to dogs that are working with law enforcement agencies. The charity was established in 2009 and has provided more than 2,000 protective vests to dogs across the country.

The donation needed to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $1,050. The vests typically weigh 4 to 5 pounds.
