Motorist succumbs to injuries from Saratoga Springs crash

Police say driver failed to yield

SARATOGA SPRINGS — A Ballston Spa man has died from injuries he suffered Wednesday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Route 50, city police said Thursday.

Harvey Froschauer, 74, was driving a 2014 Ford Focus north on Route 50 at 8 a.m. when he tried to turn left onto West Avenue and failed to yield to a 1997 Ford pickup traveling south on Route 50, police said.

Froschauer suffered head and bodily injuries as a result of the collision and was sent by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition later Wednesday.

A 5-year-old female passenger was in the back seat of the Focus at the time of the crash and was not injured, police said. She was brought to the hospital for evaluation.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, Todd Lloyd, 53, of Saratoga Springs, was sent to Saratoga Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The other two vehicles involved, a Toyota RAV4 and a Mack flatbed truck, were stopped on West Avenue at the time of the accident and sustained incidental damage after the initial crash, police said. The drivers of those vehicles escaped injury, police said.
