A cocktail bar temporarily closed by a Thanksgiving morning fire will raise funds for its employees from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at The Merry Monk, at 84 Henry St.

The Hamlet & Ghost sustained smoke and water damage in the fire and had to close for repairs, leaving the bar’s employees without income to support themselves or their families during the holiday season. The fire started in the Mio Posto restaurant on Putnam Street, adjacent to the kitchen area at Hamlet & Ghost, which is at the corner of Putnam and Caroline streets.

Hamlet & Ghost co-owner and head bartender Brendan Dillon set up a GoFundMe page, which on Thursday had raised more than $12,600 toward its $20,000 goal. The bar is expected to reopen in two to three weeks, he said.

“Despite a tough week, our spirits have soared with the outpouring of community support, kind words, and nice things people have done,” Dillon said. “We are grateful to our loyal and talented staff and look forward to providing them with some income while they are out of work.”

The fire was the second time this year the recently opened bar has had to close. In February, a burst water pipe in a neighboring apartment forced the establishment to close for a few weeks, less than a month after opening.

There is no charge for admission to the fundraiser, which will feature a silent auction and the sale of Hamlet & Ghost gift certificates and merchandise.

A portion of the event’s food and beverage sales will also be donated.

Many local businesses are providing donations or silent auction items, including The Merry Monk, Druthers Brewing Co., Saratoga Juice Bar, Gaffney’s and Saratoga Brewery.
