Police in Fulton County said a man died Friday evening while snowmobiling in Mayfield.
A press release from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said police received a call around 9 p.m. for a seriously injured snowmobiler on Sacandaga Lake near Lanzi's Restaurant on Route 30.
When police arrived CPR was being performed on Henry Ross III, who was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
"While riding across the lake his sled veered off to the right and struck large rocks which caused both Mr. Ross and the sled to strike another pile of rocks 75 feet from initial impact," said the sheriff's office in their press release.
Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino commended civilians in the area for beginning CPR on Ross and for transporting deputies to the site via their snowmobiles.
State police and the Mayfield Fire Department also responded to the scene.
