If you’re driving to Rivers Casino and Resort during its opening days, Schenectady Police have some advice.

The department released a public service announcement Wednesday urging those visiting the casino on its opening days to follow certain traffic directions.

Rivers Casino opens Feb. 8 at noon, and police are anticipating several thousand visitors each day during the first few days. To reduce traffic backups, police are encouraging those entering the site from the north, or Glenville, to turn in at the traffic light at Mohawk Harbor Way.

Those approaching the casino from the south, on Erie Boulevard, or from Nott Street, are asked to enter the site using the roundabout, exiting on Rush Street.

Casino personnel and city police are expected to be on hand when the casino opens to direct traffic. Rivers Casino General Manager Mary Cheeks said the facility has a total of about 1,800 parking spots, and the casino holds a capacity of just over 7,000. Casino staff will park offsite on opening day to allow more parking for visitors, she said.
