NISKAYUNA -- A man who robbed a Niskayuna bank Friday afternoon tried to use a CDTA bus as his getaway vehicle, police said.

The man was apprehended without further incident after the bank manager spotted him getting on the bus and followed it until police stopped the bus near the Blue Ribbon Diner, police said.

The alleged bank robber was not immediately identified by police.

The incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. at the Trustco Bank on State Street, near Balltown Road, Deputy Police Chief Michael Stevens said.

It was not immediately clear if the man displayed a weapon, but police later recovered a knife on the bus, Stevens said.

Other people were on the bus at the time, but no one was injured in the incident, Stevens said.
