Two large Colonie-based medical groups are planning to merge.

Community Care Physicians and CapitalCare Medical Group, when combined, will offer urgent care, primary care and care in 30 specialities at more than 50 locations across the Capital Region. It will have 1,800 employees, including approximately 400 care providers — physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

Additional details will be released Friday when Dr. Shirish Parikh, CEO of Community Care, and Joan Regan Hayner, CEO of Capital Care, make a formal announcement of the plans at a news conference.

But a spokeswoman on Thursday answered one question that will likely occur to regular patients of the two medical groups: Care will be uninterrupted, no offices will close, and no doctors or other employees are expected to lose their jobs as a result of the merger.

Much legal work needs to be completed before the merger goes forward. The goal for completion is summertime — the third quarter of 2017.
