ALBANY -- State police arrested 11 people in the Capital Region for drunken driving during a Super Bowl weekend STOP DWI enforcement campaign, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

They also issued nearly 400 tickets, 135 of them for speeding, officials said.

The Capital Region numbers are among more than 4,000 tickets issued statewide by the state police during an effort that ran from 2 p.m. on Feb. 4 to 4 a.m. on Feb. 6. The effort included increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

"I commend law enforcement officers across New York for their diligence and dedication to protecting the lives of motorists during this campaign, and throughout the rest of the year," Cuomo said in a prepared statement. "We have zero tolerance for impaired and reckless driving, and these enforcement efforts send a clear message that dangerous drivers will be caught and will be held accountable."

State police at Troop G, the troop that covers the Capital Region, also cited eight drivers for distracted driving, five for child restraint/seat belt violations and two for violating the Move Over law.
