A man has been indicted for allegedly beating his girlfriend's 1-year-old child to death earlier this month, the Albany County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.

The boy's mother is accused of failing to get the boy proper care and repeatedly leaving the boy alone with the man knowing he was abusing the boy, officials said.

David Bridges, 22, of Troy, faces one count of second-degree murder and other charges, accused of beating Luka Patrick to death at 4 South Allen St. in Albany on Feb. 6.
.
Bridges subjected the boy to "blunt force trauma" that caused a lacerated liver and other injuries that resulted in the boy's death, officials said.

He was arraigned Thursday and ordered held. He pleaded not guilty.

The boy's mother, Rebecca Patrick, 21, of Albany, faces two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

She is accused of seeing "significant signs" of injury to the boy's buttocks in the weeks leading to his death, but failed to seek proper medical treatment, according to the indictment.

She is also accused of repeatedly leaving the boy alone in Bridges' care "after seeing him be physically aggressive" toward the boy and knowing the child repeatedly suffered injuries while left alone with Bridges.

Patrick pleaded not guilty and was released under the supervision of the probation department.
