ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam police are trying to find a man caught on video slapping a 13-year-old boy inside a gas station.
Police on Thursday afternoon released a surveillance video of the incident inside the Sunoco on Burdeck Street. A news release didn't specify when the incident occurred.
Police believe the man confronted the child after an incident outside on the roadway.
The video shows a man in a light, buttoned-down shirt entering the station, immediately directing words at two boys. The man has close-cropped hair, a receding hairline and a bald spot.
One boy, in a blue New York Giants shirt, is standing, while a boy in a sleeveless, white shirt is sitting at a table. The faces of both boys are blurred in the video.
The man first directs his attention to the boy in blue, stepping toward him and gesturing with his right hand. The boy puts his own hand toward the man.
Soon after, the man turns toward the seated boy, raises his right hand and slaps him.
The man continues to gesture toward the seated boy, talking in his direction, and then points and speaks to the boy in blue again before walking toward the door.
A different angle shows the man returning to the boys a second time, waving his arms and then leaving.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 355-7397.
