Sawyer Fredericks is on the Move.

The Montgomery County singer-songwriter, who gained national fame and acclaim in 2015 when he won NBC's reality talent show "The Voice," will headline the opening night of the 2017 Move Music Festival next week.

Fredericks, now 18, will perform Thursday, April 27, at the Cohoes Music Hall in a show that will also feature Jocelyn and Chris Arndt and C.K. Flach. The music continues with five bands - including Mister F and Space Carnival - Friday, April 28 at The Hangar in Troy. Twenty-two bands will be on four stages in Albany on Saturday, April 29.

"I'm very excited, it will be like my first show with my new band, so that's also going to be really fun for me," Fredericks said in a telephone interview from his family's Montgomery County farm. "We're going to be playing some of our older songs, might play some of the newer songs I used to play solo. It's going to a little more eerie-sounding."

Move remains a mighty collection of shows, with 30 acts in six locations. This year's version is perhaps less formidable than the 2016 edition, when about 100 acts played 9 Albany stages.

The festival is designed to use live performances to give regional bands extra exposure. In addition to band sets, Move will sponsor a panel discussion on the music industry. The session will be held Saturday, April 29, at 3:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn in downtown Albany. It will give bands opportunities to connect with companies that can help develop and advance their careers.

Music workshops will also be part of the weekend. A guitar workshop featuring Godfrey Townsend will be held Saturday, April 29, from 5 until 6 p.m. at the Parish Public House. Also on Saturday, a drum workshop with Blake Fleming will be held at The Hollow. The hour-long sticks on skins session will begin at 2 p.m.
