When we moved to Duanesburg Road in Rotterdam 50 years ago, it was a country-like setting with minimal traffic. Over the years, it has become tractor-trailer turnpike, and the residents of Duanesburg Road (living in a residential area) have the pleasure of experiencing their homes shake and rattle because the tractor-trailers are barreling down the street at 40 mph or higher, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
To date, attempts to reduce the speed limit to 35 mph have been unsuccessful. The state Department of Transportation claims to have monitored the road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and determined that a reduction in speed was unwarranted. Why wasn’t it monitored for a full 24 hours?
Residents of Duanesburg Road, I urge you to contact our elected officials and have your voices heard. Let’s correct this situation before a tragedy occurs.
