A city man stole his girlfriend's car this week and then tried to run her down with it, authorities said.

John L. Sanchez, 21, faces one count each of first-degree reckless endangerment and fourth-degree grand larceny, felonies.

Sanchez is accused of taking the car on Broadway just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, then attempted to hit her with it, according to papers filed in court. The woman had to run behind a telephone pole to avoid being struck, papers state.

Sanchez was arraigned and ordered held on $20,000 bail. He remained at the Schenectady County Jail Friday.
