Rotterdam police on Friday arrested a Troy father and son and charged them in connection with a giant fight at the Blue Jay Tavern.

George Mott III, 48, and George Mott IV, 22, both were booked on charges of first-degree riot, a felony. The younger man also was charged with felony counts of gang assault and conspiracy.

Police said the fight took place at the Blue Jay, located at 2721 Broadway, on March 19. Between 15 and 20 men were involved in the melee, which happened around midnight.

By the time police arrived, most of the combatants had already left the scene. Officers said three men remained on Broadway, two with minor injuries and one who had suffered multiple bruises and a forehead laceration that required hospital attention.

Detectives said they spent hours reviewing surveillance video from the Blue Jay to identify suspects. They added that George Mott IV was charged with gang assault because of the victim's serious injuries, and because the man was assaulted by three or more people.

The Motts, who live in the same Fifth Avenue apartment, were arraigned in Rotterdam Town Court and sent to Schenectady County Jail.

The Schenectady County Sheriff's Department and Troy Police Department also worked on the case.
