Spa Catholic clinches Wasaren title

Terel Tillman pitched a one-hitter and drove in two runs, and Nick Winslow collected three RBIs as Saratoga Central Catholic beat Hoosic Valley 7-0 Friday and clinched the Wasaren League title.

The Saints (15-1, 17-2) joined the Wasaren this year after previously competing in the Western Athletic Conference.

“We are absolutely thrilled to win the league title in our first year,” Saints coach Phonsey Lambert said.

Tillman struck out 13 and walked none in an 83-pitch performance. The soph­omore lost his no-hit bid with two down in the fourth when Tom Madigan singled for the Indians (12-3, 15-4).

Tillman had a double and single, Winslow hit a two-run single, and Zac Cronk had a triple, single and three runs scored.

Alex Henderson pitched a three-hitter, and Saratoga Springs edged Shenendehowa 2-0 in a Suburban Council game.

Henderson gave up three singles, struck out six and walked a pair, Ryan Searles had a sacrifice fly, and Brian Hart had a hit and scored a run.

Jason Rubilotta scattered four hits over five innings, and Davis Payne had a pair of singles to help CBA (13-2, 15-2) beat Troy 7-2.

Devin Kruzinski went 4-for-4 with an RBI, and Nate Thoms had two hits and two RBIs to lift Colonie (10-5, 15-5) over Guilderland 5-3.

Noah Edwards had a triple and double to back Vincent Valenti’s two-hit pitching, and Queensbury (11-3, 13-4) secured the overall Foothills Council championship with an 11-0 victory over Amsterdam.

Valenti struck out five in his six innings, and Brendan Scott had two doubles for Queensbury.

E.J. Birch went 3-for-3 with a triple and pitched the first six innings in Albany Academy’s 5-3 Colonial Council win at Watervliet.

John Decker doubled for the Cadets (12-3, 14-4). Joe Brown had a single and double for the Cannoneers.

Brandon Decker knocked in four runs with a triple and single, and Hoosick Falls beat Mechanicville 13-3 in a Wasaren League game.

Ryan Sanders had a double, single and two RBIs for Hoosick Falls. Jacob Popiel led Mechanicville with a double and two singles.

Max Conti had a three-run home run and two singles, and four Galway pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Eagles beat Berne-Knox-Westerlo 16-1 in a non-league game.

Galway’s Sam Uline had four hits including a double and scored four times. 

Schalmont beat Catholic Central 13-0 in a Colonial Council game Thursday. Christian Caputo pitched two-hit ball over five innings, and Matt DeFilippo and Brandon LaRue both went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Mechanicville shut out Hoosick Falls 5-0 as head coach Don Arceneaux notched the 300th win of his career.

Since taking over the head coaching job in 2003, Arce­neaux’s teams have won six state championships. His overall record is 300-73.

Amanda Kenyon had two singles and an RBI for the Red Raiders, Courtney Fraher hit two doubles and a single, and Rachel Hall hit two singles and a double with three RBIs as Greenwich defeated Stillwater 10-4.

Sabrina Whitehouse hit three singles for the Witches (14-1, 17-2).

Taylor Lescault had a double, single and two RBIs for Stillwater.

Camille Coyne piled up 17 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two walks as Hoosic Valley edged Saratoga Cath­olic 1-0.

Emily Albanese threw a two-hitter and fanned 11, and Nicole McCarvill hit a home run and a double as Shenendehowa shut out Saratoga Springs 4-0 in the Suburban Council.

Olivia Murray and Emily Carroll each went 3-for-3 for the Lady Plainsmen.

Kelsey O’Brien gave Columbia a 2-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Blue Devils held on for a 2-1 victory over Bethlehem.

Danielle DiNovo had an RBI single in the fourth for Columbia (11-3, 13-5).

Shaker improved to 10-4 in the Suburban Council and 13-5 overall with an 8-1 win over Niskayuna.

Alissa Folts went 4-for-4 for the Blue Bison, Shannon Bloodgood and Celeste Hessinger each went 2-for-4 and Allie Lajeunesse struck out 10 in five innings of one-hit ball.

Madison Judge was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs as Colonie defeated Guilderland 9-3.

Emma Johnson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Garnet Raiders, Bella Kieran was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lexi Szesnat hit a triple.

Jane Field struck out eight and was 4-for-4 with a triple as Catholic Central defeated Voorheesville 10-1 in the Colonial Council.
