SCHENECTADY — Drive to Brooklyn for a bagel? Fuhgeddaboudit. As promised, Bread from Brooklyn opened its new Schenectady store Friday at 1625 Union St.

“I was up at 2:30 this morning to get ready,” said owner Angelo Bonsignore. "So far, it's going well."

After his drivers arrived Friday morning with bagels, donuts, pretzels and loaves of bread from New York City, Bonsignore and Natalia Perez set to stocking bins and shelves with the fresh-baked goods.

"Bagels were brought here fresh this morning," Perez told each customer who came in.

The self-service setup allows customers to pick out savory bagels, including egg, rainbow, plain, everything, asiago cheese and more. Sweet bagel selections include blueberry and cinnamon raisin.

Dozens of donuts are also available for self-selection, including a cinnamon-sugar jelly-filled, Boston creme-filled and classic chocolate-frosted with sprinkles.

Bread from Brooklyn sells donuts and bagels in bulk, with a minimum order of six items: bagels, donuts or a mix of the two.

Bonsignore also offers cream cheese in three bulk sizes and a couple of flavors, as well as lox.

Prepackaged cookies, spumoni and cannoli shells also make the trip from downstate.

Bread from Brooklyn is open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
