BALLSTON SPA — State police are investigating a crash involving two tractor-trailers southbound on the Northway, near Exit 13.

At least one person was trapped in one of the vehicles and had to be extricated, said Trooper Mark Cepiel, a department spokesman.

“There is personal injury — I don’t know how many individuals or the extent of those injuries,” he said.

The center and right lanes going southbound are closed to traffic. The left lane is open, but traffic has been backing up as a result. The Exit 13S ramp is also closed.

The crash occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. State police reconstruction units are on the scene, along with diesel spill cleanup crews, Cepiel said.

“It’s gonna be hours, I suspect, before we have everything cleaned up,” he said at 3 p.m.
