Nott Street reopens after roundabout work

Circle was installed to accommodate casino, Mohawk Harbor traffic increase

SCHENECTADY — Construction on the Erie Boulevard roundabout has come full circle.

Nott Street has reopened to vehicles following three weeks of construction to widen the road approaching the roundabout. The work was the final step in the $2.9 million project to install the traffic circle on Erie Boulevard.

Cars approaching the roundabout from Nott Street now have a dedicated lane for turns onto Erie Boulevard that extends about half the distance to the light at Mohawk Harbor Way.

Nott Street between the roundabout and Maxon Road had been closed to traffic in recent weeks, but the circle was flowing freely again Monday.

The roundabout was planned to accommodate the expected increase in traffic associated with the Mohawk Harbor development and Rivers Casino & Resort. The casino opened in February, and its adjacent hotel will open this month. Apartments and retail spots are scheduled to open later this summer.
