A Schenectady man is facing a number of charges after police say he broke into a woman’s home and threatened to kill her with a machete.

Police responded to 339 Brandywine Ave. on Saturday night after Walter R. Cole Jr. allegedly smashed in the door to an apartment about 9:20 and entered wielding a machete. Once inside, he threatened to kill the woman who lives there, swinging the machete at her, police said.

When police arrived and informed Cole he was under arrest, he allegedly threw punches at a uniformed police officer and was eventually taken into custody after a struggle.

The victim, a 50-year-old woman, is requesting a full order of protection. Cole caused about $150 worth of damage to the door and its frame, police said.

Cole, 55, is charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors. He is due back in city court on Friday.
