A Schenectady man was arrested on Interstate 90 after state police said they found him to be in possession of 11 pounds of marijuana.

Troopers stopped Misael A. Ventura, 37, for a vehicle and traffic violation on the Thruway in Guilderland about 10:05 p.m. Monday. After establishing probable cause, police found the roughly 11 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car, and arrested Ventura, Trooper Michael Cassella said.

Cassella called it a “significant arrest,” but not unheard of, noting that troopers on June 28 arrested a Rochester man in Coxsackie with 10 pounds of marijuana.

In addition to the vehicle and traffic violation, Ventura was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was sent to Albany County jail and is due back in court Thursday.
