ALBANY — A home burglary suspect got away with a laptop Sunday — just not that far away, according to police.

The man was found inside a vacant home a few doors from the scene of the alleged crime, sleeping with the stolen laptop near him, police said.

Kurtis Owens, 30, of Kingston, faces a burglary charge in connection with the Washington Avenue break-in. He also faces charges related to a burglary that happened hours earlier at a home on Quail Street, police said.

When police arrived at the Washington Avenue home — about 8 a.m. Sunday — the resident told them someone entered the house about 3 a.m. and stole the laptop, according to the police report. While the officer was interviewing neighbors and checking the area, he spotted Owens sleeping inside an abandoned home, police said.

Owens was arraigned and ordered held.
