Clifton Park business destroyed by fire

Clifton Park business destroyed by fire

Camp Bow Wow was going to be a boarding, day-care facility for dogs

A section of Route 9 was closed Monday night as a large fire destroyed a former barbecue restaurant that was in the process of being converted into a new business.

The Clifton Park Fire Department responded about 8:30 p.m. to a fire at the former Giffy's chicken barbecue building at 1739 Route 9, which was being converted into Camp Bow Wow, a boarding and day-care facility for dogs. Camp Bow Wow is a national dog care franchise that had announced plans to open at the new location in September.

"Please know that the facility was not scheduled to open until late September so there were no dogs there," Camp Bow Wow Albany posted on Facebook.

Photos from the scene showed flames and billowing smoke coming through the building's roof, visible from the Northway and throughout the surrounding area. Clifton Park summoned other departments to the scene. The fire had been knocked down by about 9 p.m.

Route 9 was closed between Kinns Road and Fire Road.

Giffy's barbecue, which had a popular restaurant at the site for many years, is moving to a new site about a mile north.
